Fact: I cannot resist interview memes.
May. 23rd, 2007 11:20 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
If you want to participate, leave a comment saying "interview me."
◊ I will respond by asking you five questions - each person's will be different.
◊ You will update your journal with the answers to the questions.
◊ You will include this explanation and an offer to interview others in the same post.
◊ When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.
◊ ...or you will do whatever the fuck you want, it's not like I own you or something. Yet.
Why can't I copy and paste meme rules without compulsively adding and/or editorializing them? Is it some kind of sickness?
Anyway, QUESTIONS FROM
metonymy! ♥
1. You're transferring schools; what are you studying?
Double major in physics and astronomy!
HAHAHAHAHAHA no, really. Have I not mentioned this before? You'd think I'd tell more people about this.
2. Could you ever live in a frozen northern climate? (i.e. not desert?)
If that's where life takes me, then that's where I'll live. I hear the U of Wisconsin has a good graduate program in physics, for example.
Then again, I also recall a conversation with one of my old coworkers about living is Wisconsin.
"When the temperature hits twenty, you just don't even bother going outside."
"I can imagine. Thirty is bad enough. Two degrees below freezing is two degrees too much."
"I meant twenty below zero."
"... ... I CAN'T EVEN BELIEVE YOU JUST SAID THAT."
And then my brain shut down.
Then again, I thought I'd never get used to the grotesque horror that is humidity, but after spending every summer on the east coast (and that notable summer in Louisiana) I think I've finally gotten used to it.
3. What's a plot you'd love to see in SMF?
Well, aside from the overall arching plot of Senshi vs. Elementals leading up to a badass final showdown with deaths that don't really count (because it's Sailormoon) and redemption through the power of love (because it's Sailormoon)...
Er, wait, do you mean huge, overarching superplots or small, single-story sized plots?
Either way, THIS IS SUCH A GOOD QUESTION THAT I WILL SLEEP ON IT AND COME UP WITH LIKE FIVE EACH.
4. Is the internet going to explode when Deathly Hallows is released?
No, it will IMPLODE. Harry Potter readers have evolved into the sort of fans that cannot be satisfied no matter what, and so there will be the dense dark matter of grief over character death, of righteous indignation re: character development, of a thousand voices that will cry out "that's not how it's supposed to end!" and are suddenly silenced - and the internet will collapse under it's own weight. I will probably be one of those fans.
Then we will all have to move to that backup internet that China is building.
5. Heroes finale: satisfying or disappointing? Show your work.
Oddly satisfying.
hearsawho showed most of my work for me by quoting me fairly extensively in her review.
There were a few things that I did NOT feel were 100% awesome. Candace, for example: she morphed back into a thin girl, so either she has some sort of body dysmorphia or there's some convoluted reason for her not to morph back to her true form while unconscious. While the former has the benefit of not involving the actress wearing a cheesy costume a la Paltrow in "Shallow Hal", I was kind of hoping for an overweight female character who's not playing a comedic part because there aren't that many that I can think of.
Of course, with the episode pressed for time, it was not the most opportune moment for such a revelation, but they didn't HAVE to show her morphing back to herself and I think the audience still would've been able to figure it out just fine.
There's also something Alysa pointed out about Mrs. Petrelli, the fact that she went to such great lengths to protect Claire and then just let her run off to Peter and supposed destruction in the end. NOW IT IS I WHO WILL QUOTE.
There were a few other issues, but mostly I was really pleased. Mohinder is alive, Sylar is alive, MATT IS ALIVE AND DAMN WELL BETTER STAY THAT WAY. It wrapped everything just enough that I think I'll be able to make it to the next season without exploding in anticipation, and yet I'm still interested in what might come next.
I'm REALLY REALLY HOPING that Nathan isn't dead, and that is based entirely on the fact that the Nathan/Hiro interaction is pretty much one of the cutest and funniest parts of the show, and if it turns out that Hiro's last words to Nathan really were "You are a villain!" then I will cry and cry and cry.
Also I secretly long for Matt and Mohinder (my two favorite characters) to start raising Molly as a hilarious alternative couple, but not an ACTUAL couple because Matt/Audrey OTP and his wife's baby might not actually be his since she was cheating with Other Cop so it could possibly happen maybe right?

Me: Also what the hell is up with Bitch Petrelli ("Mama" title revoked) telling Peter he's her favorite and then calling him weak behind his back? And in a bitchy way, as opposed to a regretful way that might leave room for me to still believe that Peter was her favorite?
Alysa: I think... that's she basically a stone cold bitch. XD I think maybe Peter IS her favorite, but he disappointed her by being too weak for the job, and she maybe resented him for it, was maybe angry? I call to mind that Linderman said Nathan and Peter's dad was also too weak to do what he was supposed to. So maybe it hits a nerve with her?
Alysa: (I don't think it justifies it at all, I'm just wondering if that's how it works for her)
Me: A good thought!
Alysa: This is the same woman who went to SUCH GREAT LENGTHS to protect Claire, and then totally wrote her off and didn't let Nathan go after her when Claire jumped out the window.
Me: I CAN'T TELL IF IT'S INCONSISTENT WRITING OR CRAZY WOMAN OR DEEPLY SCHEMING WOMAN.
Alysa: I think she has issues.
Alysa: I mean, it could very well be inconsistent writing, but the writers have been so good about most other things, that it's hard to believe they'd fumble it SO completely.
Me: Well, we WERE introduced to her as a shoplifter. I think I liked her better as a nutty shoplifting mom, really.
There were a few other issues, but mostly I was really pleased. Mohinder is alive, Sylar is alive, MATT IS ALIVE AND DAMN WELL BETTER STAY THAT WAY. Date: 2007-05-24 06:40 am (UTC)Yeah, Beotch Petrelli's characterization HAS been a bit all over the place all season. But the "crazy lady" from the first episode COULD have been no more than it seemed to be at the time, a woman going a bit nuts mourning her dead husband.
To extend the discussion past the last epi, and into the previous one... What about Nathans wife and sons? Might she be an unawakened "power", she was probably introduced to Nate by his Mom, or Dad. possibly just for the purpose of insuring the boys would develop powers as well. Who is to say he was not manipulated into bonking Claires mom in the first place as well. The Petrelli boys have likely been nothing more than "chess pieces" to the old guard, much like all the other heroes (except Parkman as far as we know) have been. Even Hiro was manipulated by his father. Who, if you read my post about the show IS Kensai.

Date: 2007-05-24 07:34 am (UTC)I get the idea that she's been grooming the brothers for this for a long time. Nathan's the one who succumbed to her manipulation the easiest (save for his 'folly' - ie, Claire), and became the person she thought was necessary to the cause. But Peter was always under Nathan's shadow and never amounted to much in comparison (as she would perceive it, anyway), so he was the weak brother.
So the way she saw it, she had to build the boys into something specific. But Charles knew it wasn't about what she made them into. It was about who they were at the most intrinsic level.
Also, I know Matt's all focused on his wife and baby and all, but damn it, I still want Janice to take a hike. Matt/Audrey OTP for the win! (Audrey's a cool lady; surely she'd be cool with Mohinder and Molly moving in with them.)

From:THE FIRST SECTION
Date: 2007-05-26 05:31 pm (UTC)1. Well, my good friend and old roommate Jeremy offered to buy me a tattoo for my birthday. Actually, he gave me a choice... "Tattoo or skydiving?" it was HARD. I decided on the more permanent option, which he declared he knew I'd choose anyway. I had always liked doves, and to me they represent not only christianity but positivity and being a "free spirit" or whatever. And they're cute. hee. I had a vague idea of what I wanted, but I suck at drawing, so I looked for a few weeks until I found something very close online. I knew she was the right one and with a little photoshop, she was perfect :D I loved how abstract and simplified it was - the minimum amount of lines to create a moving, alive form. The line quality reminds me of paint strokes, and the black is very simple and resolute. So. I like it. And my dad still doesn't know it exists. ha. My roomie gave me a silver dove ring to go with it for my bday, too. Aww! A bodily motif!
Everyone asked me if the thing hurt. The actual process was pretty simple. It only took me a half hour of being in the chair, and the worst pain was getting a cramp in my neck from holding still. The actual inking was just kind of annoying.
2. Well, I hate rum, so that's pretty simple. Typically the only hard liquor that I really enjoy is vodka, for better or for worse. The lighter liquors also give you less of a hangover since more shit is filtered out. Bonus! My favorite for years has been a white russian (equal parts kahlua, vodka, and milk/cream), but I'll try most mixed drinks once. lol. most...
The only time I'll really drink rum is in a good peenya colada (i'm on a PC and i'm pissed it won't let me easily type the enya), when they use the coconut rum so that it blends all the flavors together happily. The last time I had one of those was in mexico. Mmm. And the restaurant that made them so yummily blew up a couple weeks after we left. They were doing some construction nearby and they hit a gas pipe or something. Oops.
3. It's true, I do have great love for Winston. I was playing the Sims on Morgan's computer and kept naming puppies and children Churchill or Winston. Haha. Who could possibly compare...actually, I do have great respect for the first Elizabeth, because she went through so much hell in her childhood - I mean fuck, her mom was Anne Boleyn - beheaded and everything - and the country ripped itself apart trying to pick a successor to her daddy, Henry VIII. I can respect her for that and for what she did for England - promoted religious freedom and fostered an environment that gave way for the Renaissance. Um, yeah. yay lizzie.
THE OTHER PART
Date: 2007-05-26 05:32 pm (UTC)5. Well, the problem with myspace is that everything is a pull-down menu instead of fill-in-the-blank. myspace seems to think that if you are not catholic, you're "christian other." lol. I think they've since added a few more options, but I am too lazy to go check.
As for me personally, my beliefs are pretty central to who I am, but I am not the type of person to push them on anyone else or get all judgemental on your ass. I guess that goes back to the laid-back part. ha. I can't stand people who are super zealous or hypocritical about their religion or about anything. Honestly -- and I guess this goes back to #4, finally -- college has given me perspective on the first 18 retarded years of my life and made me thankful for all the shit I DID have to put up with, and made a lot of the things I have to do now just laughable.
My roommate is beyond a new level of spoiled and sheltered...so I am more thankful for being exposed to the elements earlier than most. I actually am probably going to start a new job soon working for an organization that helps runaways and kids with fucked up families. I might actually make a post about that...bringing me up to what, five this year? lol

Date: 2007-05-26 05:38 pm (UTC)6. My roommate decided that it was freaking her out in the freezer, so she defrosted it and left it to amuse the shit out of me when I walked in after work. There is a very wilted scorpion sitting there guarding the kitchen now. Guess it freaks her out less as it stares at her washing the dishes?? (extra funny: she doesn't wash dishes)
