I had a dream that Henry Rollins was yelling at me for trying to rescue a baby in traffic.

That's definitely one to look up in a dream interpretation book.

"Henry Rollins is a common theme in dreams. Amazonian shamans believe that seeing Rollins in one's dreams fortells a successful hunt, while the Chinese believe that a man who sees Rollins in his dreams will be sodomized by an angry man covered in red paint ten days later."


ALMOST DONE WITH FINALS! They have been relatively easy thus far and I am not terribly worried, but it is a bit of drudgery. I'm also glowing with delight because my Japanese instructor told me he is "so so proud" of my kanji skills, which is high praise indeed.

Makes me feel like a bit of an ass for telling him that "Japanese is (interesting! and) easy." I don't know why "your language is easy!" sounds like an insult to me, but it does. Man, why is your language all giving it away on the street corner?

My room and closet were painted, and consequently emptied before this painting could commence. I'm now trying to put everything back, including the clothes in my closet.

I came upon one shirt that I haven't worn in years. It's a red shirt with a dragon on the front and the obligatory cool-looking Chinese characters. I didn't know what they meant all those years ago when I got the shirt, but I now realize that next to the dragon is sloppily-printed text that reads: 熱血江湖

Hot-blooded Zen disciples.

Whiskey tango foxtrot. That doesn't make a lick of sense, but it's awesome.

The other night at work, one of my coworkers said that I must be the reincarnation of a monkey. It's... sort of a long story, but it was a compliment. An awesome compliment. Naturally, the first thing I thought was, "Hee hee, Goku's a monkey, too!" Of course, had she mentioned apes, my first thought would have been orangutan (who incidentally might be interested in this if she hasn't seen it yet), but she said "monkey," so, "Goku." Saiyuki Goku. You should've seen that one coming.

Anyway, to celebrate this compliment, and the fact that new Saiyuki fans keep popping up right under my nose, I translated a question from the Q&A session of Saiyuubito, the 10th anniversary series guide. Man, I sounds like such a geek right now. neherenia and shortcakegreen may remember this one from Otakon. We all wanted to know what it said, but the kanji was just too much for my brain and my limited reference book to handle.


Q. 他のメンバー(三蔵・八戒・悟浄)を食べ物にたとえると、それぞれ何になりますか?

Q. If the other members (Sanzo/Hakkai/Gojyo) were food, what sort of food would they be?

悟空　「ん～～．．．．．．ちょっと待って、難しーな。三蔵が、金箔の載ってる饅頭。八戒は茶団子。悟浄は海老シュウマイ」　(それって色だけでは．．．．．．)

Goku "Hm... just a sec, this is hard. Sanzo would be gold foil manjuu [steamed buns]. Hakkai would be chadango [green tea dumplings]. Gojyo would be ebi shuumai [steamed shrimp dumplings]." (choices based just on color...)


So what have we learned?

1. I know next to nothing about Japanese food

2. Goku isn't one for complex metaphors

3. when Goku thinks "green," the first food he thinks of is not a vegetable, but a dumpling

4. Gojyo is the color of shrimp?

5. I probably missed some nuance in the last bit of the translation (for I am a n00b)


OKAY! That was adorable and educational! Now I'm hungry. And sleepy.

Ah, the eternal conflict of food vs. sleep. Here I must play peacemaker, and accomodate both.

Our a/c is broken. The one in our house.

Maaaaaan.

At least it will only hit 102 tomorrow. I can deal with 102. Hell, it's 95 right now at ten p.m. Hopefully someone will be by to fix it at noon. Until then, since I have neither work nor school, I'll probably be sitting in the pool with a book. I know, poor Z.

The heat isn't really that bad. It doesn't bother me in and of itself; it just makes it difficult to sleep.

So that's today for you. YESTERDAY, I got a package from skyfrog. Sky, you will be pleased to know that I made a high-pitched "eeeeee!" noise upon opening it, because it is OH MY GOD SO CUTE!

It's a Hakkai birthday memorial set from 2002. It comes with a scrapbook (with Hakkai on the cover) and a voice card! You hit a button on the card and it talks! EEEEE!

Hakkai says: 八戒です。お久しぶりです。お元気ですか。＜３

The picture on the card shows Hakkai and... a bunch of limes. For some reason. (Oh hey, I just thought of a reason.) There's also a wee plastic Jeep/Hakuryuu figure! EEEEEEEEEEEEE! So cute! So much love! (eeeee!) (I must find a box so that I can send your package, Sky-bot.)

My inner fangirl is very happy.

Oh, and I downloaded a Japanese word processor for school. No shit.

Aaand I just got sidetracked looking at this for a half an hour. Yep. Time to back away from the computer for a little while.
