Saturday I was supposed to go to the RenFest with weyrcat and company, but instead I slept and slept and slept like I didn't sleep all last week, and it felt GOOD. And since I wasn't driving home from the next county over Saturday night (Arizona counties being larger than most states, which is only a slight exaggeration) I decided instead to hang out with my parents, because they're cool and I have to make up for all those teenaged years when I thought they were uncool.

So we went to the local AA potluck and got to hear a man with 50 years of sobriety talk about his experiences before and in the program. This may not sound particularly interesting to most of you, but it was, in fact, awesome. The man talked about his time as a fighter pilot in WWII and showing up at Pearl Harbor on December tenth and growing up with a father who worked as a bootlegger during prohibition and used awesome turns of phrase like "I had the world by the coattails on a downhill drag" and "I'm here because I'm not all there" and just... LOADS of awesome. I laughed so hard my chewing gum fell out of my mouth.

I feel really fortunate that I get to hear speakers like this every couple of months. If my parents weren't in AA or didn't want me to attend meetings and get-togethers with them there are so many amazing stories that I just never would have heard.

Then today I finished all of this week's anthropology homework instead of waiting until thirty minutes before class like I usually do. 10 points for me.

Also, I feel that I should note that, even though it hasn't opened yet, Three Wishes (and consequently Fushigi Yuugi) has eaten parts of my brain.

ETA: I don't know why the hell this made me laugh as hard as it did, but, well... yeah. (I can't see dogs.)

Campbell County, where I live, is larger that Rhode Island, which state's population exceeds that of all Wyoming.

I like to think we have better traffic...

I will continue to thank you for takig me to that hooka bar until I get tired of it, which will take a while. So, thank you.

Oh, and I'll respond to that note when I do. I'm... kinda saving up for a weekend to answer the last six months of notes on my journal.

And Fushigi Yuugi has also eaten my brainz. I started rewatching it this weekend. It's amazing that after 10 years and watching it eighteen bajillion times, it still makes me SQUEE happily every ten seconds. XD

I was pondering rewatching it, but most of my collection is made up of ancient VHS tapes, and most of them are in fact COPIES of the ENGLISH DUB version from years and years ago when I first discovered it.

Ah, nonfunctional nostalgia!

The thing I like best about the dub is how they not-so-subtly present the shift as being actual time travel, and not Konan-as-a-different-world.

Also, they hint that Nakago was from the FAR west, which is only true if you're standing on the eastern border of Kutou, so people think he's like from SPAIN or something.

... Also, Yui's dub voice makes me cry.

BUT NOW I AM GOING TO GO WATCH THE WHOLE SERIES AGAIN because I have just realized that I have never seen the final five, and that makes Cal sad. Also probably Nakago the Kenrou monk.
