I am not used to dealing with college on the "University" scale, and I am trying to decide how long I should wait between leaving a message for my advisor and calling back because I haven't heard from him yet.

In the annoying-reasonable-doesn'tgiveashit timescale, I commonly err on the side of "annoying".

Sometimes you have to be annoying. Advisors at universities or notorious for not giving a damn and forgetting meetings, phone calls, etc., etc.

Persistence is key in dealing with University advisors. They tend to forget and ignore a lot pending the size of their department. I think if they haven't answered in two days step up your level of annoying.

Since I think your department would be one of the larger ones, you might want to keep pestering them until they answer what ever you need. If anything, they'll remember you and make it easier to visit with.

University advisors don't give a shit unless you are right in their face, breathing fire down their neck. Phone-based annoyance should be cranked up as high as possible.

I'd call back after a couple days. These people are up to their ears in this stuff, from what I've seen, and generally overworked. Waits when scheduling the actual appointment were at least a couple weeks ahead of time back in my day, and I can only assume the problem is worsening. Then again, that was ASU.

Good that you tend to miss the cacti when you fall over at work. I'm assuming you're being metaphorical?
