Today is The Day
May. 7th, 2009 01:25 pmThe day the new A-Team movie comes out!
...wait.
I am so happy about this movie. Don't believe anyone who tells you that Trekkies are going to universally revile it, because so far it seems to be almost the opposite. For reals, folks, I have drunk Tulaberry Wine at a fake Quark's Bar, I have willfully worn a combadge in public (to Trek events only, I swear), and I have two Trek keychains: one with my name on it, and one with the name of an old Trek RP character's mirror universe counterpart (I think that may be the geekiest thing I have ever typed) AND I am absolutely looking forward to this.
I am happy that new people who don't even know the difference between Star Trek and Star Wars are actually excited about going to see all the characters I love on the big screen. For my part, I will be happy as long as I get to see Kirk and Spock being MFEO (even/especially if they have to hit each other first), McCoy being a sarcastic bitch (the doctors are always the best Trek characters), Uhura being charming as hell (I wonder if the actress can sing), Scotty being an adorable fluffmuffin engineering genius, Sulu being a swashbuckler (in fact I have already seen this in the trailer, eee!), and Chekov may be a bit superfluous at this point but he can sit there looking cute.
In addition, for my Trekkie friends who know what came before and want to see it laid out in a sentimental and tear-inducing way, ( this 40th anniversary dedication video is pretty sweet. )
The part that got me was the shots of Scotty walking onto the recreation of the Enterprise bridge in the future, all alone, juxtaposed with the shots of the old crew on the bridge. AW, SCOTTY. <3
More on work and how that went in a couple of days, once my huge nerd-on diminishes.
