thezWow, it's amazing what a difference a few hours make. I'd forgotten that it is infinitely easier to absorb information when one doesn't have classes at the ass-crack of dawn, and one is fully awake. I feel like I've rediscovered my love of math. + + <3 and so on, in that fashion.
The Christianity class isn't so bad either. The last religion class I took was nearly unbearable, because the instructor would stop every five minutes to insert a disclaimer into the lecture along the lines of "Of course, this is just what HISTORIANS believe, it may not be true, you can believe whatever you want, buzzzzzzzzz..." Yeah, that's great, but I really don't think that Christians are signing up for religious courses in college and expecting them to teach "Everything Proves that the Bible is Right 101" (and if they are, the DESERVE a rude awakening).
This time around, the instructor provided no such reassurance. In fact, she came right out and said "So, Abraham probably didn't exist, but the stories about him are true, just like every religion is true in the minds of its believers, it's called faith, DEAL WITH IT." You have no idea how refreshing it was to hear that, and to realize that I wouldn't have to listen to disclaimers all year. Instead, this teacher will occasionally wake up the class by saying something bizarre and sort of incendiary, such as "Blah blah temple blah Jewish influence blah so I've always wondered how men can love Jesus with all their heart and soul without being gay."
I snorted and guffawed when she said that one. No one else did. NO ONE. What the hell, people?

MOVING ON, GOOD SIRS.
I'm off to eat, then work on Shikye, then probably eat some more. Also, eating.

Date: 2004-08-25 06:19 pm (UTC)There are plenty of sane and rational Christians out there. I should know, half my friends are Christains. As with any group, it's just a small, vocal, annoying minority that's giving them a bad name with non-Christians.
